Working Life in Cork
Work Vocabulary & Collocations
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 vocabulary and speaking lesson on jobs, shifts and future careers, and how to keep a conversation about work going.
Students talk about part-time jobs and careers, then race to match ten work words (shift, rota, minimum wage, reference, notice and more), with the stress marked for drilling. They study fixed word partners such as do overtime, gain experience and hand in your notice, then fill the gaps from memory once the slide has gone. They learn five ways to turn a dead-end answer into a real conversation, rewrite five dead-ends, mingle at a 'Cork Jobs Fair' with secret job cards, and test their memory of who works where. Final questions, a self-check and a real-world homework task finish the lesson.
