Work-Life Balance
Main idea vs supporting details
A ready-to-teach B1+ listening lesson on telling the main idea from supporting details, built around a free 4-minute BBC Ideas video with six tips for a better work-life balance.
Students predict, match key words, then watch once to number the six tips and choose the main idea, and again for supporting details (a study, a number, an example) with timings. They notice how the speaker uses superlatives (the best way to…, one of the biggest…) to introduce each tip, race in teams on superlative forms, and rank the six tips in groups, giving a supporting detail for every idea.
