Talk Like a Corkonian
Cork & Irish English
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 lesson on Cork and Irish English, built around the hit TV comedy The Young Offenders.
Students swap facts about the show in an information exchange and meet its main characters. They learn six features of Cork and Irish English: the tags boy, girl and like; I'm after doing; ye for plural you; sure and c'mere; the sarcastic yes; and yer man / yer wan. They race to match ten Cork phrases, complete a short scene and 'Cork up' standard sentences, mingle with a Cork edition of 'find someone who', then write and perform their own episode, with audience jobs and the Corkie Awards. No video is needed in class.
