Dear Neighbour…
Complaint Letters
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 writing lesson on a polite but firm complaint letter about a noisy neighbour, the Irish way.
Students rank six noisy-neighbour situations and decide what they would do, then read a model letter and work out its layout, the job of each paragraph, its tone and its Irish expressions (Would you ever…?, fierce thin, Thanks a million). They compare a semi-formal note with a formal letter, learn five golden rules and useful phrases for softening and asking, and rewrite six too-direct sentences. After a role-play of the chat at the door, they write either a friendly note to the neighbour or a formal letter to a letting agent, check it with a peer checklist, and finish with a team letter auction.
